News | 15th May 2026
On the 14th of May, iManage announced that the iManage MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server is now available, for clients to adopt to connect artificial intelligence (AI) systems to governed iManage content.
The full press announcement is available via the iManage website.
About iManage MCP Server
The MCP Server is a standardised, open-protocol connection that enables AI systems to securely access governed iManage content without custom integrations, bulk data exports, or compromising existing security, ethical wall, and compliance controls.
The Benefits of iManage MCP
Key benefits of iManage MCP include:
- Standardised AI Connectivity
MCP provides a single secure connector to iManage without the need for custom API integrations (that must be managed and supported). As an open, vendor-neutral standard, MCP is broadly compatible, creating a standardised approach to AI connectivity across the technology stack.
- Governed and Auditable Access
All AI access to iManage content via MCP is authenticated, permission-bound, and fully logged, respecting existing ethical walls and access controls. IT and compliance teams can approve AI adoption with confidence, as legal defensibility is maintained without additional tooling.
- Richer AI, Better Answers
AI tools draw directly from your governed data, benefiting from the full context available within the platform.
- Access Without Bulk Extraction
iManage customers can request that their AI vendors access their content via the iManage MCP Server rather than bulk exporting documents. (Customers should work with their vendors to understand what data leaves iManage through the connection and how it is handled).
Understanding iManage and AI
iManage and AI was the core subject of a recent webinar hosted by Tiger Eye, in which Simon Avery and Nairn McCrudden explained more about both Ask iManage and MCP. During the session, we also demonstrated the two AI solutions in action, showcasing how they surface knowledge work and provide answers.
